How long does it take to become a Sister of the Good Shepherd?
Usually it takes 8 years to make one’s final
vows as a sister of the Good Shepherd.
Do you have an age requirement?
We do have an age policy. We accept pre-candidates between
the ages of 18 to 39. Depending upon the circumstances
and the woman we do on occasion make exceptions.
Do you have to have a college degree before you
enter?
We require the candidate to have two years of college
or work experience. For most of our apostolic ministries
a Bachelors degree is usually necessary. This can be pursued
later on.
What if you have been married?
Canon Law requires that persons who have been previously
married and are divorced - must receive an annulment
in order to be eligible to make public vows. Widows are
free to make public vows.
What if you have children?
The children must be over twenty-one years of age and
living independently.
Do you accept converts?
Yes we do. We generally ask that the person requesting
to begin the exploration process with us, be a practicing
Catholic for a minimum of two years.
What kind of qualities are you looking for in
a potential candidate?
Prayerful. Open. Flexible. Self-reflective. Good physical
and emotional health. Good interpersonal and relational
skills modeled after Jesus, the Good Shepherd. Good sense
of humor. Willing to become knowledgeable and active in
social justice issues.
How
will I come to know the Good Shepherd Sisters?
We offer a number of retreat and service opportunities
in many locations throughout the year. We also arrange
